Stamped into 18-gauge steel sheet, perfect for classic car sheetmetal use. These universal hood louvers are 3-inches long and 3/4-inch in height. Stamped using original Moon Equipment Co louver press from Dean Moon’s shop. Each steel panel is fabricated in house by skilled craftsman. A much lower cost alternative to having metal louvered panels fabricated. Can be welded or riveted into place where louvers are commonly added on hot rods. Use as delivered for unique hot rod inspired wall art or other artistic expression. Additional panels can be welded together to provide multiple rows of louvers. Louvers are stamped centered on workpiece and are 20-inches in length. Perfect as additional engine bay cooling in early hot rods with multi-piece hoods. Hot Rod Louvers Hand Stamped to Enhance Your Hot Rod Build’s Custom Looks Functional sheet metal louvers for relieving engine bay heat or scooping cool air in for the brakes were very popular modifications to race cars back in the 1930s and 1940s. Many Le Mans race cars were punched full of louvers to aid in keeping the engine cool during those long, high rpm pulls down the Mulsanne straight. Circle track racers of the same period would also louver their race cars as well. These 3- to 5-inch universal hood louvers were stamped often in several rows, completely covering a panel or the whole engine bay area of the race car. While on the street Ford’s from the Model T and Model A and up through models of the late 1930s provided some form of louvered car hood or engine side panel. They were more elegant than functional (which is why we see so many Model As and Deuces with no engine cover panels at all!) and often these cars, as well as Chevy and Dodge models from the same pre-war era, would get custom hot rod louvers stamped into their hoods, roofs, and trunk lids during the hot rod boon of the ’50s and ’60s. Of course, back then the proliferation of hot rod shops meant sheet metal louvers were relatively cheap to have stamped into a panel. Today, however, with many local hot rod shops now gone, those that still do louvers charge a shiny penny to do it. And if you’re not close enough to a shop you’re looking at having to ship your trunk lid, or possibly your whole car! Our hand punched louver panels are a cost effective answer to your hot rod louver needs. 18-Gauge Automotive Grade Steel Panels Pre-Punched with Classic 3-Inch Louvers We offer our hand-stamped 3-inch hot rod louvers in 8, 16, and 20 louver panels, ready to be fitted to your project. These universal hood louvers can be expertly shaped to match the contour of a roof or trunk lid and welded into place by any competent automotive welder or body shop. They don’t have to know the first thing about punching sheet metal louvers, as the louvers are already punched for you. Simply trim the louver panel to fit and weld it in. You can also use the panel as an accent piece with custom trim and use rivets to retain the panel. Or try some quarter turn fasteners to secure your louver panel while making it removable for service access. Our hand stamped metal louvered panels are perfect for adding that period touch to trunk lids, roof panels, engine side panels, and more and can be trimmed to allow multiple rows of sheet metal louvers to be welded into larger areas like trunk lids. These hot rod louvers pair perfectly with other period mods like 4-inch drop axles on Model A and ’32-’34 Fords! Combine the different lengths available to create custom louver designs or cut the panels down if you only need 4 louvers for a small area for example. These metal louvered panels can be the basis for a great piece of classic automobilia wall art as well. Give it some fake patina, or even paint, photo etch, or laser your art directly onto the panel and hang it on the shop wall! Whatever you use our louvered car panels for, they will certainly be a hit, be it on your hot rod or on your wall!

  • Louvered panel is 8" wide and 24" long with 20 louvers which are 3" wide and centered in the panel
  • Fabricated by hand on a vintage Dean Moon (Moon Equipment Co.) louver press the old school way - one louver at a time
  • Louvers measure 3” x 3/4” and 20" from the start of the first louver to the end of the last louver
  • Commonly used for custom Hot Rod builds to graft into a hood, decklid, or roof panel to add louvers
  • Premium 18 gauge bare steel material lends itself well to MIG or TIG welding but can also be bolted or riveted in place
